If you happen to know your jib sheet length on a 3-34 with a jib or max 120 genoa with or without a furler. How much is leftover in the cockpit? Thanks.

As a general rule of thumb we usually went the length of our boat + 5 for each sheet. So Total Line would be 2 times the length of your boat + 10 and put a bend in the Middle with a snap shackle. We didn't change sheets we just changed jibs. this was just rule of thumb it wouldn't hurt to measure the foot of the Genoa the distance from the head stay to the winch and do a side angle side calculation to get the length of the line. You know, 90 degree angle math.

Thanks, Randy. The general 1.5 x length of your boat equation seems excessive. I like your equation better. I figured 75’, so that’s 1.6 shorter than your calculation. I doubt I’ll ever use a genoa around here, but I will probably add a furler at some point.

that all being said my sheets are 90 feet in total. However I use the windward sheet as a foreguy running it through a snatch block on the track on the foredeck when I have the whisker pole up. Remember for all the upwind sailing you do you're going to do an equal amount of downwind. Don't deny yourself the sleigh ride of being 3/4 off the wind and flying down the face of a swell. The sail over here the other day was in 15 knots of wind. We had the main full out(no reef) and a 165 Genoa., the dinghy was literally bouncing off the wave tops. All this for 4 hours, a great Sail
