Thank you, Bob! I hear you, no fun to have it fail on the water. Please do let me know what you did to replace. I believe the 10-17-004 is a 1:1. Is that what you got? I think that reduction happens in the Walter V drive.. The data plate is hard to read but I think it says "Ratio 2-1".
You said it bolted on to the bell housing perfectly in the other thread. Does the Velvet Drive require cooling? There's no cooling going to the Paragon. I really appreciate the info. I found a possible place to buy one, but have to make sure I order the right thing.

Hi Mary!
Please find attached info. on where I ordered, what I ordered and some install info. Also some pics I took. It is a two person project, you have the mechanical skills to do it. The only cabinet piece I removed was the panel behind the removable step. take out the screws from the two cleats on the inside and you can preserve the finished panel. the tranny weighs 75# so we used the main sheet block/tackle and made a slip rope to fit loosely over the boom so we could slide it into position and hold it while bolting it in. I removed the starter to allow better access to the bell housing threaded holes. I recommend soaking all the bolts with PB blaster before attempting to remove. You will need a new 7/16-18 tap to clean out the rust from the bell housing holes.
Also see the pics on the SAOV tranny puller I made. Happen to be a toolmaker and had access to a mill, It could be made with a piece of AL plate as well. The steel plate is overkill but worked well as the tranny is not in the bell housing more than about 3/8-7/16 of an inch.
You will need to make a special bracket that pivots as this new setup will make your shifter backwards. I did not show that in my pics. The overall length is a bit more but I had no issues with clearance from the removable step.
It is a 1:1 ratio and the Walters takes it to the 2:1. I was not able to save the old Walters as the manufacturer said they would not sell just the coupling, so it goes. But I have had no issues with this setup whatsoever. I assume you will be keeping the boat for a bit based on the remodel you are caught up in so this will make sail life a bit less stressful.
Feel free to contact me off line and we can discuss further over the phone, which I do not want to share here.

Forgot to address the cooler question, yes it does require one that is easy to mount and plumb. You can sort of see it to the very right side by the remote oil filter I installed under the sink area. You might find a better place by the raw water inlet though.
I primed & painted the tranny and Walters with engine paint, Dupli color Chevrolet Orange/Red - DE1607. High heat nad keeps the raw casting from rusting.

I have a 78 Cal 34 and had a transmission failure. Sent it to Harpur’s Marine in Wilmington, California ( near San Pedro/LA Harbour) for repair. They did an amazing job and quickly. Check them out. Well worth their experience
