My name is Craig Feringa, last summer I purchased a 1970 Cal-29. I sail on Lake St. Claire (the heart of the Great Lakes) in between Lake Huron and Lake Erie just at the start of the Detroit River. Most of my sailing has been in the Great Lakes and mostly about 30 years ago. The boat has been on the hard since October, 2024 and during that time and up to today, I've been working on a variety of projects that include: removal of 50 years of blue ablative bottom paint and applying barrier coats, and non-ablative bottom paint. I'm updating wind, depth, speed instruments and through hulls, rewiring mast and adding LED lights and new antenna and windex. Total rewire of the boat (DC&AC). Repowering from rusting atomic 4 to 10kw electric. Rebuilt rudder and tiller. Raymarine autopilot (not the tiller pilot). Recore cockpit floor with foam core with added reinforcement to cockpit floor from underneath. Painting stern and waterline. Revising mainsheet system to get rid of traveler behind tilller. Will some luck, I'll be able to launch in about 14 days.
I appreciate the information and community on this site. I'm sorry that Mary may be leaving the Cal community and I hope she stays in contact with the group via this site.

Hey, Craig, a familiar name in the unexpected place! I usually see you on the State Bar family law listserv, and now you are a fellow Cal owner. I have a very cool Cal 20 in Traverse City. We are all beneficiaries of Bill Lapworth's good designs. In a previous incarnation of this list, a former Jensen Marine employee, now deceased, organized a project to sell signed sets of Lapworth's drawings. I have a set of the Cal 20 plans signed by Mr. Lapworth. I'll bet some 29 owners have the set and could make you a copy.
Sounds like you've had lots of fun & work doing the rehab of your boat. These are good boats and it is nice seeing one preserved and valued.
