Disappearing into the cabin soul and covered by cabinetry in the head I'm just wondering what this is for? It looks a little rusty. I'm gonna kinda tidy it up and paint over it, but I was just curious if anybody had any thoughts on what this was I don't think it's connected to the main beam could be who knows but everything I've seen since I've owned this boat since 2006 tells me that I just never noticed it before Freshwater boat no salt water ever recent work new router, new prop shaft, new prop, new cutlass, bearing new cutlass bearing holder lots of fun after I hit a log. This particular piece is located on the porch side behind the head and in the main saloon area hopefully this picture will help.

I’m not really familiar with the 29, but have some time in the bilge of my 3-30. That plate, nut and bolt don’t look to me like they are original to the boat. As I recall, the “dreaded steel beam” lives right under that bulkhead in the 29. Could the plate be helping position some sort of beam replacement?
I was on the original Cal List back in the day. The 90’s were about the time most of those beams met their end. A lot of creativity was applied, and a lot of 29 beams were fabricated from various materials, including glass reinforced plywood. Alan Storey of Vancouver BC made a bunch of stainless replacement beams, including mine. I wonder if you could get a peek at the other side of the bulkhead, or the pan, perhaps from any access from the head side.

Looks like one of the tabs that holds the main beam under the bulkhead. On my 1977 2-29 there were two tabs on the main cabin side and one under the galley area. When I replaced my main beam I found that the only remaining pieces were the tabs bolted to the main bulkhead, the rest had rusted away.
