Allen, thank you for posting that link. If only we could still correspond with Lapworth! Almost a year later and I have decided to keep the Cal and she will continue to live in Alameda.. back to the rigging plans now. KKMI is having a rigging sale, but my dockmates are also telling me BMC is much better now with new employees..

Wherever you go, I hope it work out. For the record, I also used what used to be called Rigging Only for my lifelines. They were super helpful and I was happy with everything. I just climbed my mast to check the rigging and it looks fine. Doing so inspired me to update my article on mast climbing. I cleaned it up a lot (the article not the rigging although I did clean my spreaders). Perhaps you would be interested if you are thinking of doing the rigging yourself.

Thank you, Allen. I have heard of Rigging Only. I'll check them out. I did replace my lifelines a few years ago.
I've been up the mast and its not my favorite pastime, but it is a necessary skill to have. Yes please post a link to your article here.
I'll be un-stepping the mast this time because there is a small leak. I believe someone added a wire at some point which was not sealed properly. I had to replace the compression post and half of the bulkhead when I first got the boat because there was rot hidden behind the trim.

Thank you, Allen. The Cal is on the hard in Berkeley now. They unstepped the mast today.

Hi Mary,
I replaced the forestay and backstay on my Cal 3-27 myself but used Ryan and Rogue Rigging to make up the new stays. Here was my process…. I put up a temporary backstay and temporary forestay using dyneema line (you can use other means, but I enjoy working with dyneema 12 strand). I dropped off both original stays at his house/shop, he made new ones to perfect spec and length and then I picked them up a few days later and reinstalled them. I went through the Rogue Rigging website for communications and payment to Ryan. The hardest part is working at the top of the mast and removing the old hardware and cotter pins. It’s not complicated, just awkward.
I’m pretty sure Svendsons also has a rigging shop where they could make up new stays/shrouds for you.
I plan on doing the shrouds and chain plates next!
Good luck,
Mark

Thank you for the info, Mark. I had to unstep the mast because there was a leak. I believe someone added a wire to the mast at some point causing water to leak onto the bulkhead and compression post. That's why I had to replace them when I first got the boat. I'm finally able to repair that properly now.
I pulled the chainplates and they look good! No crevice corrosion.
