Rumblefish is A lovely cal 29 of early 70's vintage ,with a really squeaky companionway hatch . Any thoughts of rebuilding or making her less of an annoyance to my neighbors ?

Nemesis, ’74 3-30 has always had a terrible squeal in the companionway hatch. It feels like the slider has broken or worn away under the seahood. I have never been able to figure out how to get the slider out. I’ll bet that if I could, I could rebuild it to square, and stop the noise. Wish i could be more helpful.

I had to take the wood retainer rails off to get the slider off for painting. So not it's back on, hopefully for good.

I've found a little wax rubbed where it contacts the boat works well.
I used ski wax since I had some around. It needs to be reapplied after a while but isn't hard to do.
Slide the hatch forward, rub the wax on the boat - done.

I tried tape, like packing tape to make it more slippery. It worked well but ended up being a mess to clean.

My go-to for sticking things on boats is paraffin wax. It's durable, doesn't attract dirt, cheap, and removable (unlike silicones). My Cal 20 slider scrapes on the sides--I use paraffin there. I had to remove the tracks and lift the hatch off a few years ago when the wood strips glued to it as runners died of rot. I glued new strips in. Then I applied paraffin.
