Discovered a broken strand, actually 3, on the backstay before hoisting the sails. So I'm looking for either a local Long Island rigger or a recommended shop to mail-order a custom stay. I'm happy with the 316 wire rope with swaged fittings. I have no desire to upgrade. Any opinions?
Oh and my plan to replace the rigging this winter just got a bump in priority.
Looking for a rigger or source for standing rigging

Hi Dan, it's going to depend on whether or not you want to go up the mast and take off your backstay or just hire a rigger to do the job. Most riggers have their own sources for materials. If you're up for a trip up the mast though, you can just take the old backstay to West Marine and they'll duplicate it for you. Their prices are usually a little bit higher but you also get a warranty. Not all the West Marines do rigging but if you take it to a local shop they'll send it out to one of their sites that handle it. I've been hearing of a few people that have gone to Dyneema but I think until it's got a much longer track record it might hurt resale and it definitely adds more windage. Good luck!
