A beautiful evening today. The setting sun gave us a little green flash treat.

OK, I'm jealous. We've had 5 days of mostly gray, cloudy, and wet after our run of record-breaking Oct. heat last week. But Martha C, Cal 20 #1220, came out of the water on the 3rd in sun and warmth. Yay for haul-outs on warm dry days! Tonight's chore is rowing out to remove my mooring buoy and replace it with the winter markers. I drop the chain down and weight it so it doesn't wear all winter long, and use two floats--one under the surface, one on it. It will be in the 50s but the water will still have some summer warmth yet as I wade the dinghy out.

My other boat over on the Lake Huron side comes out Monday.

The darn cell phone camera has lousy color representation when shooting directly into the sun. This is how it looked if you were there.

We lived in Guam for 4 years where sunset had the flash most days. We walk the beach every morning at sunrise on Oahu and frequently see the flash but have never seen anyone catch it on camera as it happens so quickly.

Yes. The color is usually sub one second. We however have caught a few that have lasted up to 2 seconds. Of course those are usually ones where I don't have my phone or camera out.
